Curating Product Ideas on Pinterest

by Ryan M. Healy on May 23, 2012

I’ve been using Pinterest periodically for a few months. It’s a fun way to curate pictures and ideas.

For example, I have a board called “Products I Like.” Anytime I see a creative product or product idea, I pin it on that board. I find it’s good way to get the creative juices flowing.

Anyway, just an idea for you to try. And if you want to follow me on Pinterest, click here.

Any SOE benefits from using Pinterest that you’ve found?

Not really, but it’s not something I’ve tested either.

I think sites that focus on cooking, gardening, and other hands-on “how-to” projects will benefit most from Pinterest. After all, it’s basically a photo sharing site.

I’ve thought about using more photos in my blog posts so I can get more value from Pinterest, but I don’t enjoy taking time to find and upload photos to my blog posts.

I used Pinterest and I love it because it uses images/photos which catch attention to people and attract visitors and can help increase our traffic to our sites.

I just don’t get the appeal of Pinterest. There’s too much info to digest on the internet as it is. It’s another great time-waster like FB.

From a business perspective, it’s only good for people in the arts/crafts/fashion/food/travel niches. That’s my thinking.

Even then, who knows if it produces traffic or customers? Seems like Pinterest users stay on Pinterest.

I do think it’s a good way to curate ideas in picture format.

And, yes, it can be a huge time waster just like any social network.
