How Many of Your Affiliate Links Are Dead?

by Ryan M. Healy on November 10, 2011

I’ve been researching affiliate programs — both from a manager and affiliate’s perspective — quite a bit this year.

I’ve conducted this research to see how widespread affiliate commission theft is… and… to gather ideas for a new info-product I’m creating about how to start, differentiate, and grow affiliate programs.

Anyway, what I’ve discovered is that affiliate links stop working more often than you might expect.

In the past 2-3 months alone, I’ve found multiple dead affiliate links that I’ve had to remove from my site.

This happened again yesterday as I updated the ads I have rotating on my blog.

Checked the affiliate link — and it directed me to a page that said the program was no longer active.

It baffles me that affiliate program managers would allow their links to go bad. But they do.

With that in mind, you might want to mark your calendar to check all your affiliate links once a month or once a quarter to verify they’re all still working.
