Wow, that really hit the spot Ryan, thank you. Here's one I found not long ago that also hit the spot, maybe you would agree :)

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
Calvin Coolidge

Certainly it's hard to be creative when you're being self-critical or you're rehashing other people's criticisms. Thanks for contributing, James!

Makes me wonder if artists would be better served by planning what their second album will be like -- instead of focusing solely on that first release.

I totally resonate with the Jars of Clay bit. When I first started listening to rock music seriously... I saw the exact same pattern. There's always this raw, gritty, "I-really-want-it" attitude on those debut albums. They're not sure if they got everything right yet... and that "seeking" is what makes them so inspired.

Thanks Ryan. Normally, the first thing I do when I get up is eat breakfast, mull around on the Internet for an hour or so before deciding to get round to doing some actual work.

This morning was different. I woke up and decided to write an article. I intend to keep up this new habit. You actually feel really productive! Anyway, nice post. Everyone needs inspiration.
