What Questions Do You Have About Copywriting?

by Ryan M. Healy on November 8, 2009

Heads up…

I’ve got a few more posts in queue and will be publishing them soon.

But it’s been a while since I asked you what questions you’ve been wrestling with. With that in mind, what questions do you have about writing sales copy for the web (or direct response copywriting in general)?

Just type your question below in the comment box. Or, if you’d rather, shoot me an email at rhealy@gmail.com.

I’ll be reviewing every question and will choose the best ones to answer in new blog posts.

Thanks!

Does a beginner, or someone with a little experience have to do a lot of cold calling to build up a livable income or are there sites where marketers seeking copywriters go to find copywriters. I know of the Copywriter's Guild on LinkedIn, then there's craigslist (they only allow you to adveritse locally). Any more suggestions?

Any good ideas on how to capture the attention of a visitor and get them to take action on your offer or freebie would be great!

Hi Ryan, say you have a client you've been doing business with for almost 2 years. Your compensation up to this point has been fee-based. Any suggestions on how you might broach the subject of moving to a smaller fee, but also a % of sales revenue going forward? I'm thinking others must have done this, but I've never done so. Thanks

I saw a sales letter online for a membership offer with a “take away” close at the end. Have you used and tested variations of this and how effective is it in boost response? Here it is:

“Not exactly a fortune (it's about $2.23 per day). But definitely not for everyone. In fact, if you have to “scrape” the money together each month… or if you have ANY doubts whatsoever about whether this is something you really want to be a part of, then…

Great questions so far! If you have one, feel free to add it below. I've also gotten a number of questions by email, so I'll be compiling them all in a single document to consider how to answer them.

Hi “Murraysearch” – In case you're interested, I recently wrote an article about how to get attention in hyper-distracted markets. It might answer your question:

How will the new FTC laws/rules effective Decemb er 2009 affect copywriting? Should we be overly cautious? If so, will that water down our copy?

What's the most sensible template-type framework for a newbie to follow in writing a salesletter?

You can't be a good copywriter without knowing some marketing. What advice do you have for copywriters pertaining to how they should be learning and keeping up with both the basic principals and the latest thought?
