oh yeah - to turn on your Trackback URL - you should find it in the widgets for your Each Post - under the comments widget.

This may not work for everyone (I use the Semiologic Theme which adds a lot of Widget Power) so I'll do some wordpress research and get back to you.

Hey Ryan,

What I had intended to say at the Fortin / Other Guy seminar (I can't bear the other guy so I shall not speak his name!) was...

"Why don't you copywriters promote Other People's stuff as an affiliate?"

With your mad persuasion skills - you can usually outsell the original person who is selling the widget anyway.

So you simply create landing pages for web traffic.

Then it's a question of getting traffic and split testing your work to build groups of niche email lists...?

Someone who does this really well is Colin McDougall at http://rickbutts.com/fly - yeah, that's an affiliate link but it goes to a free report that is excellent.

Waking up with the help of some coffee - talk soon.

What is your "Twitter" id?

John - You're welcome. I needed the reminder, too. :-)

Rick - No problem. I look forward to connecting soon. And, yes, we were both at the Fortin/Calhoun copywriting seminar in Denver. I was the guy in the hot seat who got ripped for my copy.

By the way, I still remember something you asked me at that conference: "Here's what I don't understand. If you're a copywriter, why don't you just create your own products and sell them yourself?"

And the question has haunted me ever since.

I would love to turn on my trackback feature... just not sure how to do it.

Lorraine - I hope you followed through. And I hope you're feeling less of a burden now that you're not getting all that email.

Kyle - Good for you! Looks like you've reduced your email volume by 80%. Nice.

Flashback: On May 6, 2007 (more than a year ago), I wrote a post recommending my readers unsubscribe. Here's the link:

I can't help but smile when I read these emails and the comments back on my original post.

Seems you've helped me start a bit of a focus revolution.

Perhaps there will be more time now for us to read good blog posts and start to find reliable people we can trust to give us good information.

I'd a lot rather get my "new software alerts" etc. from a blogger I trust - rather than a landslide of rubbish emails all slobbering all over me to buy a new million dollar method.

I just did my own spring cleaning last week when I realized I was about about 50 different marketers lists (not to mention all the general interest & other work related ones).

Anyone whose emails I regularly "mark as read" without actually reading got the flick.

Anyone who constantly pitched rubbish got kicked.

Anyone who was just parroting someone else without adding any real insight also got the axe.

Those 50 are down to about 10.

And my inbox is so much quieter. I can actually leave it open without being a huge distraction.

Ryan,

Thanks! I thought it was just me...

Today I will lift the load off my computer and myself. Now I won't feel beholden to read junk mail.

Have a Wonderful Day Ryan

Hey Ryan,

I'm SO SORRY for not returning your phone call (and for having a torn up contact form) .... I am a skank.

Yes, I live here in Denver too - and I think we sat in on the same copywriting seminar that Michael Fortin put on here, right?

I owe ya a phone call and will get back to you right away.

Thanks for posting this - I will Stumble ya and link to you on my massive linking network!

Thanks - Rick Butts

Ryan,

Thanks for a great heads-up. I've been systematically unsubscribing from so much useless email lately. I just don't have time to be pitched and pitched and pitched without seeming to care about whether I receive anything out of the email relationship.

I appreciate you passing the link on that blog post on.

BTW, about the comment that Rick makes about narrowing down who you are going to listen to instead of allowing the firehose of email to pin you against the wall with "water" volume, Ray Edwards touched on this in a recent podcast of his at http://rayedwards.com/overcome-marketing-guru-confusion/

Good stuff.
