Awesome, it's good to unplug sometimes.

This gives you more energy for your next project. Like Eben says: "Get out of the grey zone"

@Jason - That would definitely be an interesting experience/experiment. Doesn't Tim Ferriss recommend a similar strategy when traveling overseas? I think he just brings his wallet, a book, and the clothes on his back. Then he buys clothes, toiletries, etc. when he gets there.

Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment, Jason!

Here's another method.

Depart wearing clothes you could care less about. Take no other clothes with you. Once at the destination, buy whatever you feel like wearing and throw the old stuff away.

Nothing like wearing some new drawers and socks!

Seems like I'm always buying new clothes when I'm in a new town.

@Mark - Yes, anytime I'm without my laptop, it helps to clear my mind. Also, my cell phone usually doesn't work outside of Denver. So imagine... no laptop AND no cell phone. Liberating, indeed. (Although DJ Dave was kind enough to lend me his cell phone to call my wife.)

@Becki - Wow. Three weeks? That's impressive... in a strange kind of way. ;-)

@Teresa - I took a look at your blog dedicated to your daughter. That's an amazing story, and I'm glad your daughter has made it so far and is doing well. A testament to God's grace... and your endurance!

@DJ Dave - Yes, that was quite the large carry-on. At least it wasn't bright blue. ;-)

Ryan knows I take very little on trips. As light as can be.
Oh wait.....it's April Fool's Day.....let me take that back. I bring the biggest suitcase known to mankind (Ryan saw it this past weekend).

Indeed, unpacking the very night I return gives me closure on the trip. It's impossible for me to carry forward, when the suitcase is still filled, well, backwards. And hindsight, knowing of the lackluster internet connection we had at the hotel, I probably should have left my laptop at home, too.... :-)
